Ferrari is targeting a cleaner future with two in every five cars it sells set to be fully electric by 2030.

Having launched its first hybrid car in 2013, the car maker aims to ramp up sales of these models to 40 per cent by the end of this decade.

Ferrari will do this by turning its historic factory in northern Italy into a hub for battery-powered cars, underscoring how even the most pure-bred makers of combustion engines are embracing an electric future.

Cleaning up: Ferrari, led by chief exec officer Benedetto Vigna (pictured), is aiming to ramp up sales of its hybrid and electric models to 40%  by the end of this decade

It will invest £3.7billion over the period to develop fully electric and plug-in hybrid models.

‘We have all the skills, all the capital to successfully manage the electric transformation,’ chief executive officer Benedetto Vigna said.

Vigna was brought in last year to speed up Ferrari’s transition away from the 12-cylinder combustion engines that have been the hallmark of the carmaker for decades.

So far only four Ferrari models – or 20 per cent of the range – are hybrid cars.

Between 2023 and 2026, the company said it will launch 15 models, which include a supercar.
